Takaoka Art Casting: Pine, Bamboo, and Plum Trinket Box / Ashtray - Retro This item has been carefully stored at my grandparents' home for a long time. I believe it is from the early Showa period. □ Product Details Takaoka Art Casting This is an art casting from Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, which has a history of about 400 years and is the largest copperware production area in Japan. It features a pine, bamboo, and plum design. It can also be used as an ashtray by removing the inner tray. Size: Approximately 29cm x Approximately 13.5cm x Height Approximately 4.5cm It comes in a box. Old newspapers from the time are placed inside to prevent scratches. □ Product Condition Unused, with no rust or other damage. The inner tray has some dullness due to long-term storage. The box has damage and tape marks (please refer to photos 15-17 for details). Otherwise, it is in very clean condition. Takaoka Art Casting is a term used to refer to the advanced casting technology, particularly for Buddhist altars, ornaments, and art objects, within the casting industry that has developed in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture. Takaoka developed as a casting town about 400 years ago when Maeda Toshinaga invited metal casters upon founding the city, and it eventually became known nationwide as a production area for art crafts such as Buddhist altars, vases, and ornaments.
