Product: Kenmogozo Made Osaka Naniwa Pewterware Genuine Pewter Teapot, Teapot, Tea Ceremony Utensil Size: Height 10.5cm, Diameter 6.7cm Weight: 488.6g Accessories: Original Box Kenmogozo (けんもごうぞう) is the name of a pewterware workshop that flourished mainly from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China period in China. Its products are characterized by their precise craftsmanship and are also appreciated as works of art. While they mainly produced pewter tea ceremony utensils, they also handled water pitchers and sake cups. Airtightness Created by Craftsman's Skill The role of a tea caddy is to preserve tea leaves deliciously. Airtightness is important for maintaining the aroma of tea leaves. The characteristic of a pewter tea caddy is its excellent airtightness. When you place the lid on the tea caddy, it slowly descends while expelling air with a suction sound. This is proof of airtightness and a very satisfying moment. This precision can only be achieved by skilled craftsmen. It is carved from a single block of pewter on a lathe, and in fact, only a few craftsmen among Osaka Pewterware artisans can make it. It is truly the ultimate tea caddy, made possible by the skill of experienced craftsmen. Pewter Preserves Why do tea leaves retain their taste and aroma for a long time in a pewter tea caddy? The key is how to protect the tea leaves from oxygen, moisture, and sunlight. For example, wooden or ceramic containers allow air to pass through and cannot be sealed. Transparent containers like tupperware expose the contents to sunlight and, of course, allow air circulation. What about other metals like copper, tin, or stainless steel? The biggest difference between these metals and pewter lies in the manufacturing process. In the case of pewter, it is carved from a single block on a lathe. In contrast, other metals are typically formed by shaping a single sheet into a cylinder and joining it. Pewter tea caddies are naturally more airtight and have a seamless finish. Furthermore, pewter itself is resistant to oxidation and does not rust. As a material, it is strong, so the item can be used for almost a lifetime.
