This is the Drawmer LX20, a true British-made vintage compressor (unlike current compressors often produced in Asia) that was recommended in magazines like Sound & Recording by Taku Takahashi and engineer Yasuhiko Terada as essential for punchy kicks and sound creation using sidechaining. The attention to detail in the components, such as the capacitors, reflects Drawmer's stance at the time, and the value of the pound sterling is evident. Simply running your kick or bass through this compressor will make it sound thicker. Thanks to its excellent VCA circuitry, you can achieve a sharp, hard sound with strong attack for kick drums reminiscent of the TR-909, dance music kicks, and bass in general, similar to an analog synthesizer. By manipulating and setting parameters like attack, release, expander, and gate, you can achieve this distinctive sound characteristic of the actual unit. Furthermore, by utilizing the sidechain function (refer to the rear panel), you can create dynamic and aggressive grooves. As it is a pure analog circuit, you can also achieve saturation effects with the output gain.
