This artwork is based on the Buddhist painting Nirvana Sutra. It is said to depict a specific scene of Shakyamuni entering Nirvana. This piece portrays Maya, Shakyamuni's mother, who rushed down from the heavenly realm of Tōriten to the earthly realm, only to find that the time of his passing had already occurred, leaving her in deep sorrow. The scene is based on a Buddhist tale where Shakyamuni, before her grief, is said to have risen from his coffin through supernatural powers and delivered his final sermon. Shakyamuni is depicted in the center of the composition, surrounded by numerous figures, creating an impression that is both solemn and rich in narrative. The detailed depiction of clothing and ornamentation suggests that considerable effort was invested in its creation. According to the previous owner, this work was created in Nepal and is said to contain gold. However, we have not conducted professional appraisal or material verification, so please understand this information as hearsay. Housed in a richly decorated frame, it possesses a strong presence not only as a piece for a Buddhist art or Asian art collection but also as a symbolic centerpiece for any space. Please enjoy the unique texture of an antique piece, which may include scuffs, minor scratches, and dirt due to age. The glass surface shows reflections from the lighting during photography. Dimensions: Width 143 cm, Height 108 cm. The item is located in Asakura City, Fukuoka Prefecture. If you can pick it up directly, we will offer a discount of the shipping fee (12,000 yen).
