Polishing rod. Super hard. This is a tool used in the finishing sharpening stage. It polishes the shinogi-ji (ridge) and mune (back) of a sword to a mirror finish. Some may have distortions in shape, so please reshape them with a diamond whetstone or file, then polish with diamond paste for maintenance. It is said to be used not only by sword polishers, but also by habaki makers, metalworkers, tsuba makers, engravers, metal craftspeople, and accessory artisans. It removes the grain of the uchigumori whetstone and polishes the surface. Of course, it removes the grain of the uchigumori whetstone. It is said to be compatible with natural whetstones. Although it is only for the shinogi-ji and mune, it has various other uses. This was found among a large inheritance of items used by a sword polisher. It is said to be a part of hundreds of prototypes that were made. They had many made with different materials, hardness, and shapes, or made them themselves. In the past, it was considered standard for polishing military swords, but now anyone can use it. They use several polishing rods, differentiating between rough and fine polishing. Although I have explained the polishing rod at length, I believe it can also be used as a polishing spatula for engraving. It polishes the surface of the base metal and hardens it. Perhaps it is used for silverwork? Metalworking artisans often use this.
