All specimens were collected outdoors in Shibata City, Niigata Prefecture. Collected August 2025: Broad-tailed swallowtail dragonfly Collected June 2024: White-backed skimmer Collected July 2024: Scarlet skimmer The broad-tailed swallowtail dragonfly resembles the giant darner, but has a fan-like appendage at the tip of its tail. It is a rarer dragonfly than the giant darner. The broad-tailed swallowtail dragonfly has had its internal organs removed and has been reinforced with colored cotton, tissue paper, and toothpicks. (Without this, it is fragile and easily broken.) The scarlet skimmer and white-backed skimmer are small and have only been dried. The compound eyes of the broad-tailed swallowtail dragonfly typically turn black, so the color has been reapplied from the inside to replicate their appearance when alive. They are very beautiful! As these are field-collected specimens, there may be some minor scuffs and scratches. Please refer to the photos. To ensure longevity, after drying, the specimens were frozen for over 2 days (to kill insects and prevent insect damage). They were then placed in a plastic case with a desiccant and the lid was sealed with tape to prevent pests from eating them. Please remove the tape when opening the case. The bottom right of the whiteboard has been scraped off; after freezing, a desiccant will be placed there before shipping. Dragonfly specimens are fragile and easily broken. They will be shipped via Takkyubin Compact with fragile item handling.
