Up for sale is a stunning example of pre-war German engineering: the Agfa Movex 8 (Model 5510) 8mm Movie Camera. This pocket-sized cinema camera was a marvel of its time, known for its robust build and Art Deco styling. This unit is uniquely complete, featuring its original leather case and a rare vintage Agfacolor film cassette still inside. Condition & Functionality • Mechanical: TESTED & WORKING. The winding crank operates smoothly, and the spring motor runs strong when the shutter trigger is pressed. • Optics: The Agfa-Kine-Anastigmat \bm{f/2.8} lens shows some age-related cloudiness (haze), typical for glass of this era. • Body: The crackle enamel finish is in excellent condition. The German-language rotary exposure calculator on the side is fully intact and legible. • Case: Includes the original Agfa-branded embossed leather case. The leather shows a vintage patina; it remains supple in many areas but is starting to flake in others, consistent with its 85+ year history. • Internal: Very clean film chamber (Serial No. 2285 M). History & Rarity Launched in 1937, the Movex 8 was Agfa's premium answer to the amateur filmmaking boom. It utilized a proprietary cassette system (included here) rather than open reels, which was revolutionary for the time. Finding a unit where the internal clockwork motor still functions is a rare find for the discerning collector or shelf-ready display piece.
