Golden Gulch: The Story of Montana’s Fabulous Alder Gulch, 2nd edition, by Dick Pace, published by the Virginia City Trading Company in 1970, Western decor book. It measures 7 1/4” wide by 10” tall. 96 pages with lots of sepia tone photographs. “In what is now Montana, gold was first recorded in 1852. . . . Benetsee (whose real name was François Finlay), a trapper who had tried his hand at mining in California, is credited with the first gold which he supposedly discovered just west of the Continental Divide. The creek was later named Gold Creek. . . . This study will hit the highlights of significant events since Bill Fairweather and Henry Edgar panned out $4.80 in two pans of Alder Gulch gravel one evening in 1863.
