ATELIER Alain MOINIER Mirecourt, France, circa 1990 16 inches (405mm) Viola The string instrument workshop Atelier Alain Moinier in Mirecourt, France, is the predecessor to Aubert-Lutherie, famous for its bridges. As expected from a workshop that reigns as a top brand for bridges, it is evident that excellent wood has been used. This masterpiece, crafted using the traditional Mirecourt methods with over 200 years of history and the unique techniques of Aubert, with over 150 years of tradition, has earned high acclaim as a true contemporary French instrument. ★No. 89 (Reference Price: ¥1,000,000 - ¥1,100,000) Crafted in the distinctive style of the Alain Moinier workshop, it is finished with a bright orange-yellow spirit varnish. Currently, Aubert violas start at a list price of ¥1,100,000 (J.B. Vuillaume model), and it is a strong contender against renowned German brands like E.H. Roth's #62 (¥1,080,000). This is a rare opportunity to acquire a ¥1,000,000 class viola at an exceptional price! Despite its large 16-inch size, it weighs only 605g, making it very lightweight, which translates to excellent playability and responsiveness. Furthermore, its large size allows for a rich resonance, with deeper, warmer bass tones and a cello-like, enveloping sound that is captivating. It possesses good volume and projection, and depending on the player's technique, it can assert its presence even in large halls for solos or concertos. It has been played to some extent since its creation, has settled over time, and is in stable condition in a good environment. Why not consider this authentic viola (contemporary French) on this occasion? Basic maintenance (cleaning and adjustment of all parts including the body, bridge, soundpost, and fingerboard, as well as partial varnish touch-ups) has been performed, along with parts replacement and repairs as necessary. While there are some scratches and dirt from use, the overall condition is healthy and clean. The bridge is the original Aubert Deluxe with a double stamp from Alain Moinier. The fittings are made of high-quality rosewood. It is strung with new, top-of-the-line Pirastro Olive gut strings (a set costing ¥50,000 - ¥60,000). It has been adjusted and maintained, so it is ready to play upon tuning. Click here for the manufacturer's site
