This is the liquid remaining after boiling Japanese honeybee comb waste to extract beeswax. It can be used as an attractant during swarming season. While called an attractant, its purpose is to impart a scent to the hive box. Honeybees have a strong tendency to prefer hive boxes they have previously nested in, so for new bait hives, this is used to add a scent and make them appear used. Honeybees have a good sense of smell, so diluting with water is fine. I tend to use it diluted about 2 to 4 times. 〈Example Usage Methods〉 ?Spray onto the bait hive ?Apply with a brush ?Apply with a rag or cloth ?Boil the hive box or frames in hot water mixed with the attractant in a large pot or a 1-gallon can, or pour the liquid with a ladle or otama, or apply with a wooden stick wrapped in cloth. I used to do it with a 1-gallon can at first, but recently I've been taking shortcuts and my favorite method is spraying. I believe the effect is sufficient even with this method. In any case, it is often said that mold will grow if not dried thoroughly after treatment. I have never experienced mold growth with this process, however. The season for preparing bait hives is also a dry season, and I believe it will dry quickly without conscious effort if left outside after treatment. Ships at room temperature. If you plan to store it without using it all this season, freezing is recommended. At room temperature, it will ferment, and if the cap is tightly closed, the container will swell. I have used it even after fermentation and it is still effective, but mold may float on the surface of the liquid in the container, so freezing is best if you do not plan to use it immediately. However, please understand that even with this attractant, beeswax, or bait hive lure, the capture of swarming colonies is not 100%. Even with thorough preparation, the capture rate is said to be 10-20% for beginners and up to 30% for experienced beekeepers. Nevertheless, as experienced beekeepers know, the joy of a successful capture is exceptional. It is a thrill that is hard to experience otherwise. I sincerely wish for the success of all who purchase this product. Click here for the manufacturer's site Easy to find furniture and interiors! Click here for Askul's general furniture TOP page.
